On the news this morning, Matt "Skinhead" Lauer was interviewing some guy about the tornadoes in Missouri, Kansas and Tennessee. The guy said, in response to one of Matt's questions, "We're putting a number of people on the ground" to help residents with the aftermath.

That's such a strange phrase. Makes it sound like these people were suspended above the earth, just waiting to be lowered into a tornado-ravaged area.

And as long as we're going that direction: Isn't "aftermath" a weird word? It has an ominous sound, although it shouldn't, because I was never so happy as a kid than when I was done with math class for the day.
